Sydney spank 10-man Perth
Sydney FC claimed a share of the A-League lead after hammering 10-man Perth Glory 5-2 in an incident-packed clash at the Sydney Football Stadium.
Fiery Glory defender Dino Djulbic was sensationally sent off in the 20th minute for allegedly spitting at referee Peter Green as Sydney all but settled the contest with four goals in a wet and wild opening half.
Alex Brosque, Steve Corica, Mark Bridge and Shannon Cole all put their names on the scoresheet for FC, with Glory defender Nikolai Topor-Stanley conceding an own goal late in the second half and exciting Perth import Eugene Dadi bagging a double.
The win sees Sydney join Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United in a breakaway group at the top of the ladder with Perth languishing in the bottom two after their second loss in the opening three rounds.
Brosque opened the scoring in just the second minute after intercepting a dreadfully judged Djulbic back pass, but the turning point came in the 20th when Steve Corica went down in the box under pressure from Perth's Adriano Pellegrino.
With the match all square at 1-1, Green had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, prompting a vehement response from Djulbic, who was first yellow carded for dissent and then issued with a straight red after appearing to spit in the direction of the referee.
Corica converted for a 2-1 lead, before Bridge made it 3-1 in the 39th, despite replays suggesting it was a Jamie Coyne own-goal.
Cole added a fourth goal on the brink of halftime after again some poor Perth defending.
And while they took the foot off the accelerator after the break, much to the concern of coach John Kosmina, the home side never appeared in any danger of relinquishing the three points in the second half.
Ivory Coast international Dadi, after opening his A-League account last week, again impressed for Perth, finding space in the box to head home an Amaral free kick in the 12th minute before adding a second from the spot in the 66th.
Dadi earned the penalty, although like Corica's it looked questionable with the striker falling to the ground under minimal contact from Simon Colosimo.
The penalty also dulled the crowd's reaction to the introduction of John Aloisi just seconds earlier, with the Sydney marquee star making his club debut after missing the opening fortnight with a foot injury.
He twice came close to opening his Sydney goal-scoring account in, only to be denied by Glory 'keeper Frank Juric, before eventually adding the pressure which prompted Topor-Stanley to put the ball in the back of his own net in the 88th minute.
