HP Pavilion Media Center PC m7640n 2. Emerson Video Cassette Recorder (with a 19 Micro head - WOW!) - model EWV601 3. Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 4. Photoshop CS2 5. Quicktime Pro 7.0 (compression for YouTube). Instructions: With most new HP PC's there are composite RCA (and S video) jacks on front and back of the computer. Plug in the VCR to one of the composite jacks (we used the front)using RCA cables. Now, hopefully, your computer came with Sonic, which seems to be the only program available to me that works (Premiere does not recognize the jacks and Windows Movie Maker gave me video but no sound when I selected Composite 1 or 2). In your programs, select Sonic, then MYDVD PLUS. Select the options for creating a DVD Project. Select "Capture Video." I always push record first on the software, and then push PLAY on the VCR because there is a slight delay when starting the record on the computer; therefore, you will lose a few moments from the tape. The tape records onto the computer as a MPG file format. Luckily, that is what all the new HD cameras compress to (instead of the common AVI for mini dv's and digital 8's). And because of this, Adobe Premiere Pro and other video editing software programs have been updated over the last 2 years to edit MPG format. Edit the video and export it as AVI format. Start Quicktime Pro and open the video file. With the video open, select Export and choose settings similar to those found here (watch Quicktime video settings for Youtube): http://www.squidoo.com/youtuberight I actually use best settings instead of the settings recommended, because I have a better computer with a ton of memory, so I'm not worried about my computer slowing down or crashing during the export compression cycle.
