Descrição: Performing live in Brooklyn: Maria Benjumeda- vocal Cristian Puig - guitar Peter Basil - cajon Place: Rose Live Music Date:03.04.08 MARÍA BENJUMEDA (Singer/Cantaora) was born in Andalusia, Spain, and grew up in Jerez de la Frontera, land of the legendary wineries and flamenco music. She studied acting in Paris where she graduated from the Conservatoire du Xème rrondissement in 1998, and has performed in classic plays such Electra, El Barbero de Sevilla, and School of Wives. She moved to New York where she started to sing and became reacquainted with her flamenco roots. She has been performing in different tablaos and clubs and with dance companies like Andrea del Conte Danza España, Ballet Español, and Atrevete. She has also performed in Los Angeles in the Fountain Theater with Juan Talavera's Company and Tony Triana. She took acting workshops with George Dicenzo in NY and Milton Katselas in LA. She has appeared in some student films in NY, and starred in Marc Beneria's AFI short film King Returns which was selected at the Habana Film Festival and at several Festivals all over the U.S. CRISTIAN PUIG was born in Buenos Aires. When he was 19 years old, Cristian began his studies in classical guitar at the conservatory of Manuel de Falla as well as flamenco guitar with his father. In 1990 he formed the flamenco fusion group Rabat. Rabat appeared in various theaters and venues in Argentina and later went on to travel to various countries in South America including Uruguay, Brazil and Chile.In 2000 Cristian was asked to travel to New York to make his debut at Alegrias tablao. Since then Cristian has been working and composing music for local and foreign artists and companies. At the present time he is working on recordings of his own compositions. PETER BASIL / drummer - percussionist As a drummer and percussionist, Peter has spent the last twenty years playing and recording with dozens of artists, dance companies and musical groups.The first of which were Shanachie recording artists "Annabouboula" in the early 90's which had several hits in Europe. In the mid nineties Peter began playing with Motown recording artists "Zhane" who had big hits like "Hey Mr.DJ" and "Groove Thang", and toured all over the U.S. and Japan twice with them. In the late 90's Peter began playing with Jazzmaster Bobby Previte and his tribute band to Miles Davis called "The Horse". Lots of touring in European Jazz Festivals.
